Tonight, after posting some articles about the President-elect Rodrigo Duterte -- or if one insists on being hypertechnical about it, the Presumptive President-elect Rodrigo Duterte -- I watched again the two videos of the Cebuano song "Papictura ko nimu, gwapo" by Marie Salvaleon, both the official video, and the lyric video.
This song was among the entries of Vispop back in 2013. I like the upbeat music and the funny, without getting slapstick lyrics of this song. Strange as it seems I only discovered this song this year, partly because I hadn't really heard about Vispop. Be as it may, I found it after I got tagged by another friend who is as every bit as enthusiastic about Visayan music in general.
The lyrics video was excellent even though it doesn't follow the recommended orthography of the Akademyang Bisaya. The official music video was even funnier - it features the singer trying to get a photo of a guy whom she has apparent feelings for - hence the song "Papictura ko nimu, gwapo" (Let me get a picture of you handsome). How the video ends up, I'm not going to give away but suffice it to say that there were moments I was laughing. And the singer incidentally wears clothing that surprisingly is similar to the shirt that President-elect Duterte wears. And this song came out three years ago. Surprising, most surprising.
But enough, I'd like to go back and listen to the song again and again...

Random Thoughts on the Philippine Election
It's been more than a week since the Philippine general elections last May 9, 2016 and I still am euphoric over the victory of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Regardless of whoever wins the Vice-Presidential race whether it be Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. or Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo, and despite my disappointment that the Liberal Party (LP) will continue to control the incoming Congress.
This election resulted in many of my friends on social media being invested emotionally in the campaign. Although many have moved on, I have noticed that the supporters of Mar Roxas, despite Leni Robredo emerging as the apparent winner in the vice-presidential race, have been more bitter than others in coming to terms with Duterte's victory. And some public figures who were passionate about their support for Mar are writing as though they are unhinged. (I won't need to name names here). Not surprised, during the campaign, they were among those who were the most vocal in highlighting every negative story against Duterte. To be fair, I've seen a few supporters of Binay, Grace Poe, and on rare occassions, supporters of Miriam do the same thing, but to be frank, it was the Mar supporters who displayed the most vitriol. And they claimed to be for the "Straight Path" (or as they call it in the Infernal Subdialect "Daang Matuwid").
A few of my friends, passionate supporters of Mar, could not believe I supported Duterte. Evidently, for them, federalism and self-determination issues were of little importance. For me though, Duterte's advocacy of federalism was the one item that sealed the deal. The problem with the Philippines was the question of whether it is really a nation or not. Federalism promises to address that age-old question and provide a means for the captive and stateless nations of the Philippine state to exercise meaningful and genuine self-determination without going the drastic route of partition or unilateral secession.

New Blog New Beginning
Today I start an English language blog. Previously I blogged in my true native language Waray-Waray and I still do. However due to the fact that like many current and former citizens of the Philippines I was subject to cultural indoctrination, it is easier for me to write in English rather than my true native tongue.
Does this mean I will give up blogging in Waray? Not at all! This English-language blog is only intended for me to blog if I choose to do so in English. I am not discontinuing my Waray-Waray language blog although I admit I have allowed it to fall into disuse. But who knows? Maybe I'll start writing again.
So here's to a new blog, and a new beginning...
